Dianne, the pictures are both beautiful and precious! The little one looks so much like Liza, my granddaughter. Your work is very good and I will continue to look for your paintings. Thank you for the adorable card (I am running out of adjectives) I will share it with someone special.
Weekly Art Quote:
painter has two main objects to paint, man and the intention of his
soul. The former is easy, the latter hard as he has to represent it
by the attitude and movement of the limbs."

You must have an idea of what you want before you start the process i.e.: why you want the art piece done? You might request a portrait of your house but it is really the view of the garden from a window that you love. If the artist works from photos either by choice or necessity and you provide the photo or photos the photos need to be clear and of a size that the artist can see detail. I prefer to work from a very clear good medium contrast photo but others painters have different criteria.
You should be given written information that explains what they need from you and what they give you in return. You may be asked to sign a contract. Ask questions before you sign and expect to pay a non refundable down payment. Some artist's will take photos for you if you don’t have suitable photos.
Be sure you like the artist’s style and remember you are buying their vision of a person, pet or landscape, not a photo.
The time to completion of the work will vary depending on the artist’s work load and the complexity of the work and the artist's way of working. I usually show the piece to the client part way through the final work for the client’s information if they wish. Not everyone wants a progress report and some artists won’t show the art until it is finished.
After the work is finished payment becomes due in full. Some artists do revisions without an increase of fee but don’t expect the artist to be able to change much on a watercolor painting. The more explicit you are before hand the more likely you will be pleased with the art work.
In Canada the artwork is automatically copyrighted to the artist. This means that if you wish to copy the art to give to someone else or keep you must ask the artist’s permission and perhaps pay for that right. This does not give you the copyrights, only the copy unless you buy the copyright and have a signed agreement.
E-mail me if you have any questions.
